Work rights for students in the major study
destinations worldwide differ widely and the following
table aims to compare the basic rules across 14
different countries. Bethan Norris finds out more.

fl ash survey of agents
conducted by StudyTravel
A Magazine in November last year
revealed that 52 per cent claimed
that work rights were an important
consideration for their language
sector clients, while 87 per cent
said the same about their university
clients. With global infl ation aff ecting
citizens worldwide, the ability to
work and earn money while studying
overseas will no doubt become more
important over the next year or two
and destinations with the most
favourable work rights are likely to win
out when it comes to competing for
the international student market.
When asked which destination was
the most popular for students that
did fi nd work rights to be an important
deciding factor as to where to study,
Ireland was the most mentioned by
agents when talking about language
students and Canada was the most
mentioned by agents when asked
about university student clients.
This feature compares work rights
for international students attending
courses in 14 diff erent countries
and should be checked with local
embassies and visa issuing offi ces. It
should also be noted that citizens of
countries in the EU can study
and work freely in other EU
countries without a visa.
